How We Can Help Humanity in the Midst of Chaos

This pandemic has created chaos in many of our lives. We are not sure what to do for ourselves, much less for others. We seem to be separated, cut off from others, and in a way, a bit dehumanized. We need to take a few minutes and reach out to others. It will make us feel better, more connected, and more content.

1. Start by offering kindness. Pay attention to people around you, then do what you can to make their lives a little easier. Smile at others. It will make you both feel better.

2. Get involved in community service. If you don’t have a lot of time or money to donate, you can certainly donate some unused items from your home. Others need and can use things that are no longer needed by you.

3. When your birthday comes around, instead of having people give you a gift, ask them to donate to your favorite charity.

4. Ask someone how he or she is…especially if they have been going through hard times or have lost a loved one. We all need someone to care about us.

5. Help them move forward. If someone is suffering the loss of another or having difficult times, it could be they don’t know what to do. Help them by asking what they need and showing them how to do it. You may need to run an errand for them or teach them a skill like how to use a computer. Don’t do it all for them, just help them get started.

6. If they seem to be in depression or suicidal, urge them to get help. You may need to call a doctor or suicide hot line to find out how to help them.

7. Maybe your friend needs to lose weight or get active, offer to exercise with them or go walking together. Once they get started, the endorphins kick in and they’ll start to feel better, mentally as well as physically.
