Life often brings challenges that can feel overwhelming. My own journey—facing breast cancer and dealing with other personal obstacles—taught me that the way we respond to life’s difficulties shapes how our lives turn out. From these experiences, I learned lessons that guided me, which I share in my book, I Learned to Live One Day at a Time.

One of the most important lessons I learned is the power of resilience—and that it starts by putting God first in everything. Life may throw obstacles our way, and it can be easy to feel defeated. But every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger, more compassionate, and more self-aware. Focusing on solutions instead of setbacks, and choosing to rise above fear and uncertainty, builds the inner strength we need to keep moving forward. Resilience helps us keep going and live with courage and confidence.

I also learned how important it is to take care of our well-being in every part of life. Facing a serious illness reminded me that looking after our physical, emotional, and mental health is not a luxury—it’s
essential. If we don’t make time for our health, illness will eventually force us to do so. I personally lost so much quality time with my family because I didn’t make my health a priority. That is time we can never get back. Listening to our bodies, keeping healthy habits, and making space for self-care gives us the energy and clarity to face life’s challenges. Well-being includes how we treat ourselves, the boundaries we set, and the daily choices we make to protect our soul, heart, and mind.

Another powerful lesson is the value of hope and gratitude. Even during the hardest times, choosing to see the blessings in each day brings peace and purpose. Living one day at a time doesn’t mean ignoring the future; it means fully embracing today, finding joy in the small moments, and allowing God to guide our steps. Gratitude changes our focus from what is missing to what is already here, opening our hearts to positivity, meaningful connections, and a life lived with intention and purpose.
